Microsoft and French studio Dontnod Entertainment announced the upcoming narrative adventure game “Tell Me Why,” which will feature a transgender man as its lead character, an industry first for a major game release. The announcement came in along with a slew of other gaming news during Microsoft’s X019 event in London.
Tell Me Why takes place in a small-town Alaska, where players are immersed in a mystery revolving around the intimate story of twins Tyler and Alyson Ronan. The narrative builds on their remarkable bond, revealing memories of a loving but troubled childhood. The game is releasing in three chapters and will be available on Xbox One, PC, Windows 10, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass in the spring/summer of 2020.
This news comes as video games, in general, have been under fire for not being inclusive enough to the LGBTQ+ community. The Dontnod website references a game-specific website for Tell Me Why (tellmewhygame.com) but as of the time of this writing, it features nothing but an error code.
